INTRODUCTION

Koko wa Greenwood (Here is Greenwood) could easily be your average slice-of-life high school shoujo manga (girl's comic) if it weren't for a few things that just don't fit the stereotype. The pink-haired boy who looks just like a girl and is most assuredly straight, for example. Or the psychotic, wanna-be mafia boss sister hellbent on revenge who has a fetish for kidnapping and being slightly perverted in general. Or maybe what really sends it reeling off the deep end are things like boy-crazed ghosts and the Chocolate Doll Incident. Of course, maybe the whole manga was just doomed to be terribly twisted and abnormal from the start. It's okay though, that's why we like it.

Greenwood was first serialized in Hana to Yume Magazine in 1987, and quickly gained a dedicated fandom. The series ran until 1991, producing a total of 11 volumes, and was subsequently made into an OAV series. It's always remained somewhat obscure among western fans, until just recently (2004) when it was licensed by Viz. From this point on, the fanbase can only grow. Volume one (and more) of the translated manga can be found for sale here.
